Reversible Hand Contact Burn

The Reversible Hand TraumaWear Contact Burn shows the progression of a contact iron burn from 0–2 hours to 24–48 hours. Worn on either side of the hand, it helps learners understand burn patterning, early deterioration and accurate burn-care decision-making.

Description

Reversible Contact Burn Simulation for Realistic Hand Injury Training

The Reversible Hand TraumaWear Contact Burn by TraumaSim provides a realistic and clinically informed way to train learners in recognising and managing contact burns. Because these burns often occur from hot metal surfaces such as irons or machinery, they show distinct patterning and can deteriorate over time. This wearable, reversible design allows trainees to study a contact burn in both its early and progressed stages, improving their understanding of how these injuries evolve.

Developed with guidance from Professor Fiona Wood AO, this hand-mounted wearable reflects the anatomical accuracy and visual progression seen in real contact burns. Her clinical insight ensures that both sides of the wearable—representing the 0–2 hour acute injury and the 24–48 hour progressed stage—mirror real-world burn presentations and clinical expectations.

“My consultations with TraumaSim have enabled the creation of high-fidelity burns training resources that reflect the challenges of real-world care. Such realism drives deeper learning and leads to better outcomes for those suffering burn injuries.”
— Professor Fiona Wood AO

Why Train for Contact Burns?

Contact burns from irons, heated tools or industrial machinery can cause instant and severe tissue damage. The early stage may show clear patterning and superficial blistering; however, the injury can deepen and worsen significantly within the next 24–48 hours. Therefore, responders must learn to recognise both the fresh burn and the later-stage deterioration to make accurate treatment decisions.

The Reversible Hand TraumaWear Contact Burn demonstrates how the same injury changes over time. Trainers can flip the wearable instantly to compare the early and advanced stages, helping learners build stronger clinical judgement and greater confidence when managing contact burns on the hand.

Reversible Hand TraumaWear Contact Burn Components
